Welcome to Bridgnorth Bowling Club
Coronavirus Update - 24th March 2020
Bridgnorth Bowling Club has regrettably decided to close the green following Prime Minister Boris Johnson's announcement of more stringent measures on the movement of people amid the coronavirus pandemic.
We deeply regret this but we find this highly necessary and responsible course of action must be implemented with immediate effect and be maintained until further notice.
Keeping the green open is simply no longer compatible with the updated policy of government which is designed to save lives in a time of national emergency.
While bowls is an outdoor sport that allows players to exercise in the fresh air, the message to all of us is clear, we must stay home and play our part in containing the spread of COVID19.
On behalf of the Committee
Statement from Bill Meredith Club Secretary 22 March 2020
Many of our members will be aware of the British Crown Green Bowling Association (BCGBA) announcement on the 16th March regarding the suspension of all bowling for the foreseeable future.
This was followed shortly afterwards by the suspension of all Bowling League fixtures.
The club’s committee met on Friday 20th March to consider the ramifications of this suspension for our club and members. Our priority as always is to safeguard our members and ensure the club remains viable at the end of this period, as yet unknown. We have proposed several measures, these include :
The clubhouse will remain locked with immediate effect. Access will be restricted to a few people and the alarm will remain on. This decision is for health & safety reasons and to reduce the risk of contamination of the clubhouse.
After careful consideration, it was decided not to close the bowling green. Members who wish to attend for practice or roll up may do so during daylight hours. Jacks and mats will not be provided. However for those who do not have a jack and mat the club has a limited number which could be loaned out for the duration. Please contact Bill Meredith direct.
Members must lock the gates on exit
Any decision to attend the bowling green will be of members own choosing, discretion and responsibility, having familiarised themselves with Government & NHS guidance for protecting themselves and others.
The committee strongly recommend that members do not attend the bowling green unless they use the social distancing measures of 2 metres. Members should stay at home if they have either a high temperature or a new, continuous cough. Remember, we all have a responsibility not just for our own welfare but for the safeguarding of others. Please take care of yourself and stay safe.
Further information about coronavirus symptoms can be found at :
Please be aware that the decision not to close the bowling green may be overturned at short notice, depending on Government's future decisions, restrictions and advice.
This obviously will be a difficult time for cash flow for all bowling clubs. The Treasurer thinks we should be able to get through this period even though it will eat substantially into our bank balance. Therefore payment of your subscriptions would help sustain the club through a difficult time. If you wish to do so, send a cheque direct to the Treasurer or if you can, use the BACS system. Contact the Treasurer for the account details.
Good luck to everyone, stay safe and hopefully we will be bowling again soon.
